Elite Taekwon-Do Academy was founded in 1999 by Master Terry Donnelly, an 8th Dan Black Belt with more than 38 years' experience teaching martial arts. Today, he leads a trusted team of experienced assistant instructors across Balbriggan and Lusk.
All members of the teaching team are Garda-vetted, with safety and high professional standards central to every class. For more than 25 years, local families have trusted Elite Taekwon-Do Academy to be far more than a martial arts class.

Is the Discovery Course suitable for complete beginners?
Yes, the entire course is designed for children with zero prior experience. Every student starts from the same first step.
What age is the course suitable for?
Children aged 7+. Classes are grouped so children train alongside peers at a similar stage.
My child has never done any sport or activity like this before, is that okay?
More than okay, it's exactly who this course is designed for. Every child starts on the same first step regardless of sporting background. Our instructors are specifically trained to bring shy or reluctant children out of their shell gradually, at their own pace. Many of our most confident senior students started as the quietest child in the room.
What if my child doesn't enjoy it?
Yes: our 4-Week Confidence Guarantee. Attend at least 2 classes per week for the first 4 weeks of the course. If, after that, you don't feel your child is growing in confidence, focus, and discipline, just let us know before the end of Week 4 and we'll refund your €249 in full. To qualify, attendance of at least 2 classes per week for Weeks 1–4 is required, with the refund request made before the end of Week 4, and the free uniform returned in original condition.
Do I need to pay for anything extra once the course starts?
No, your uniform, first grading, and all included resources are covered in the €249. The only optional extra is if your child continues beyond the 12 weeks into ongoing membership.
What if we can only make one class per week some weeks?
That's exactly what Flexi-Class Access is for, you can attend either location's sessions that week (Balbriggan Tue/Thu or Lusk Mon/Wed), so missing one slot doesn't mean missing your two classes entirely.
Can we switch between Balbriggan and Lusk during the course?
Yes, that flexibility is built in specifically so families aren't locked to one location if plans change.
Are the instructors vetted to work with children?
Yes, every instructor is Garda-vetted, and safety is a core part of how every class is run.
Is there any sparring in the beginner course?
No, the 12-week Discovery Course focuses on foundations, focus, and confidence-building. Sparring isn't introduced at this beginner stage
What should my child wear to the first class before they get their uniform?
Just comfortable clothes they can move in, the uniform is provided and fitted on day one, so there's nothing to buy or prepare beforehand.
Does my child need any prior fitness level to join?
No, the course is built for complete beginners of all fitness levels. It's designed to build fitness gradually, not require it upfront.
What happens after the 12 weeks are finished?
Your child will have completed their Yellow Stripe Belt grading and graduation. From there, most families choose to continue on to ongoing membership, though there's no obligation to do so.
Can parents watch the classes?
Yes, parents are welcome to watch from the sidelines, and families are specifically invited to the Week 12 Graduation Ceremony.
How will I know how my child is actually progressing?
You'll get a Monthly Parent Progress Report, plus instructors do direct Milestone Check-Ins if they notice your child stalling or having a breakthrough, so you're never left guessing.
What if my child has a medical condition or additional needs?
Just let us know when enrolling, our instructors are happy to discuss any additional support needed to make sure your child gets the most out of the course safely.
