Kids Self Defence in Balbriggan - Elite Taekwondo Academy

On Saturday 21st of October 30 members of the Elite Taekwon-Do Academy team competed in the INTA National Championships 2017. The venue for the event was the impressive Gormanstown College just up the road from us in Co. Meath. Over 650 competitors had travelled the length and breadth of the country to compete for the title of Irish Champion. After a long but thoroughly enjoyable day Elite Taekwon-Do Academy had picked up a very impressive 31 medals. (9 Gold, 7 Silver and 16 Bronze).

With 6 competitors in the Black Belt divisions ETA managed to secure 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals. After a quick change out of their Doboks our black Belts spent the rest of the day coaching and supporting all of our other members. Our Parents too lent great help getting competitors to their rings on time and offering encouuragement throughout the day. This was the biggest number of Parents we've had at an event to date and it made all the difference to the success of the Academy on the day. Thank you all so much.

The photo above shows Dave Baxter with his daughter Erin celebrating winning Gold and Silver medals together. Dave trained with the Academy many years ago and started training again when Erin decided to join the Academy. Robbie and Campbell Whelan also competed together for the first but definitely not the last time, Robbie winning Gold and Bronze medals. Memories are made of this.

There were many outstanding performances on the day but special mention must go to Adam Zivkovic who came back from a hard hit in his Final match to take Gold in Sparring. James Lennon was our last competitor of the day but he was well worth the wait. Over 3 matches James displayed many of the skills we have been working on with Carl at our squad sessions to great effect resulting in his first ever Gold medal win. Take a bow James and Carl.

I wish to congratulate also our competitors that didn't medal this time. Each of you trained diligently and competed with honour, you may not have been rewarded for your efforts this time but all of you are better now than you were when Squad Sessions began and you will be even better again next time out. I am privileged to have you as students.

I would like to sincerely thank all of our Competitors, Umpires, Coaches and Parents for their contribution at the weekend. We couldnt have been so successful without all of us working as a team and that is what got, a real Team effort. Special thanks must really go out to Mr Carl McGrath and Mr Dan Donnelly, who both prepared the team at squad sessions and umpired and coached on the day, their contribution is recognized and very much valued. Well done to you both. (Results Below)
